Broken Monday performs music influenced by the best songs of the modern and classic rock eras, with an edge. We play both originals and covers, which consist of selections from U2, Pearl Jam, the Black Crowes, Stone Temple Pilots, the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Tom Petty and many more. We strive to play songs in their familiar style, but also add flavor to the songs with improv jams, rhythmic interpretations, and effect driven guitar fills.
Mike Devericks - Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar
Mike was born and raised in Richmond, VA/B.F.E. He has always had a love for music and has been playing guitar and singing since the age of 15. In his free time, Mike likes to hang out with friends and family, have a nice glass of red wine, and not to mention a good cup of coffee.
“You know, there is nothing better than a good cup of coffee to warm the body, a pretty girl to relax the eyes, and a Marshall amp cranked on 10 to soothe the soul.”
Ben Schaefer - Lead Guitarist
Ben grew up in Detroit, Michigan and has lived in Virginia for the last two years. After six years of the viola, he picked up the six-string at age 12. A great bunch of guys in bands up north were nice enough to let Ben play with them: Woodcuttin' Ben & Blues Power, Frank Tanana and Soul Spill. He spends most of his time copying licks from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Jack White (White Stripes), Eric Clapton, Elmore James, Duane Allman, Buddy Guy, Slash, Albert King and Freddie King. CC DeVille (Poison) also gets an honorable mention. Broken Monday picked up Ben towards the end of 2007.Bill Huebner - Bass, Backup Vocals
Bill began playing music in 1997 when a good friend of his put a bass guitar in his hands, and he has been hooked ever since. From there he joined an established Classic Rock band ‘Iron Horse’ and also helped form an Alt/Rock band called ‘Wonderground’. While continuing to play with the latter band, Bill came across a group of solid musicians looking for a bass player and after 1 tryout; they decided to bring him aboard. Some of Bill’s musical influences include The Cure, The Smiths, Crowded House, The Squeeze, and just about anything The Eagles have ever done. After 13 years of playing music, he finds that nothing is more satisfying than seeing people enjoy and appreciate music from a live band, and he is quite confident that Broken Monday will be providing that same enjoyment to the Richmond area for years to come.
Jeff Rothman - Drums
Jeff grew up in New York where he started bashing on a snare drum at the age of eight. His parents hooked him up with a Pearl World Series kit for his Bar Mitzvah and it is still the kit he plays today. He studied drums and engineering at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and has played in many different bands over the years all over the northeast. After school, Jeff lived in New York City for seven years drumming and engineering. His last engineering gig in NYC was at Jazz at Lincoln Center with XM radio where he worked with some amazing artists including Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, Santana, U2, Willie Nelson, Wynton Marsalis, and Sting. That was an exciting time for him, but Jeff is really looking forward to a mellower, down home, Richmond existence playing with Broken Monday boys.
